Overview:

The sacrum is the triangular-shaped bone located at the base of the spine between the hip bones that connects the spine to the pelvis and is an important structural component of the pelvis. A sacral fracture can result from a falling injury, osteoporosis, tumors, or other medical conditions that weaken the bones. Symptoms of sacral fractures include severe pain in the buttock/lower back, difficulty walking or standing, swelling, and severe tenderness in the sacral spine area.
